MILONGAS - What is a Milonga?

Milonga is a tango dance party originating in Buenos Aires.

It is also a music and dance style that is at a livelier tempo than a tango.

The most common musical styles played at a milonga are tango, vals or milonga.

The music played at a milonga often defines it; you will find milongas that play mostly classical tango from the 1930’s & 1940’s, those that play more contemporary, alternative tango music and others that blend both. Our music is mostly classical tango with a blend of new and alternative, plus musical surprises.

Most milongas are weekly or monthly and often begin with dance classes and sometimes showcase demonstration dances.

ATI hosts the largest and best milonga in Chicago at 325 N. Hoyne, Chicago, Illinois 60612

Our milongas are very dancer-friendly. If you are new and coming alone, don’t feel intimidated; we will introduce you to others and find you a seat.

Enjoy the evocative tango music, dance on our expansive dance floor and socialize with the friendliest dancers in town!

We include one or 2 ladies’ choice tandas during the night. (Tanda is a 3 piece set punctuated by a cortina, or break.)

ATI loves to celebrate birthdays! Let us know your birthday so we can celebrate with a special birthday dance.
We serve light refreshments and soft drinks, but BYOB. We provide corkscrews if you bring your own wine.
